It holds tiny details perfectly, however, because it is so soft, it can easily be broken. Much care must be taken to not put pressure on fragile areas while carving and sanding. When creating an animal carving, the first thing I do is cut some tiny blocks, with the grain oriented vertically. Having already designed and drawn the monkeys on paper I will now draw the design onto my blocks of wood.
