Kitty's Kitchen In Miniature

CDHM artisan Hazel Parr of Kitty's Kitchen in Miniatures The creativity of miniature artists also extends to the tools they use, and Hazel is no exception.

"I work on a piece of glass that was salvaged from an old photocopier; it makes a great, smooth work surface. I also work on white white, six-inch ceramic wall tile as they are easy to move around and can go straight into the oven for baking the clay."

When it comes to adapting an everyday object and incorporating it into her craft, Hazel has an extremely innovative tool.

"One of the more unusual tools that I use is a volume control knob from Phil's guitar. When you roll it across the clay it makes a perfect criss-cross wafer pattern." CDHM artisan Hazel Parr of Kitty's Kitchen in Miniatures

And her goals for the future?

"My goals for this year are to gain IGMA Artisan status and to develop my website into a more professional platform for my work. Ultimately I would like to think that I can become a respected artisan in the miniature scene."

And whatever happened to the Traditional English Pub that started her fantastic journey into the world of miniatures?

"The room box that never made it as a pub found life as Kitty's Kitchen Café, complete with cooker, sink, tables and chairs."

Oh, and of course, miniature food that looks good enough to eat!

You can see more of Hazel's wonderful work in her CDHM Gallery.
