CDHM artisan Kay Burton paints miniature kittens and cats in acrylic "I hope to expand my collection of 1/12th and 1/24th scale fabrics. I am producing designs on three weights of material to be used for everything from doll dressmaking to upholstery in various themed collections. Within these collections are designs that can be mixed and matched to produce some colorful combinations. I am hoping to produce textiles that will be suitable for Tudor right through to Modern dolls' house settings."

Kay loves her craft, and has many goals she'd like to achieve. First and foremost are her miniature reproductions.

"I want to recreate, as accurately as possible, the works of the great masters in miniature and to try and be as good at my work as I possibly can."

She is not hesitant to admit that she's continually searching for new goals although at the moment her textile designer roots are at the forefront.

Having battled illness for the past few years, and at last on the road to recovery, Kay sees each day as a blessing, another chance to pursue her love of art and to tap her creative soul.

CDHM artisan Kay Burton hand painted horse acrylic oil painting in miniature "I love being a creative person, I'm always thinking of new ideas for painting and designs, but sometimes it frustrates me because I haven't got enough hours in a day to achieve what I want. I'm really excited about venturing back into the world of textile design again and I hope that my designs will appeal to the miniature community."

A recurring theme for miniaturists that have achieved a level of realism in their craft is when their work is mistaken for the real McCoy. Kay is no exception.

"I suppose this happens to a lot of miniaturists, but I have had people buy paintings from my website thinking that they were real size. I can't quite see how such a mistake can be made when the site is called 'Kay Burton Miniatures' and each painting has its size quite clearly stated both in inches and in centimeters!"

To see for yourself how such a mistake could be made, check out the art of Kay Burton at her Gallery here at CDHM.
