CDHM artisan Kay Burton There are many art studios offering "museum quality reproductions" of some of the most famous paintings in the world, something that would look just fine over the fireplace, or on the living room wall. But what if your fireplace is only five inches tall? Where do you look? You can look to Kay Burton of Kay Burton Miniatures. Kay is a miniature artisan specializing in 1/12th and 1/24th scale paintings, frames and fabrics.

Kay, who is located in North Lincolnshire, U.K., was first introduced to miniatures in 2003 while on a trip along the River Thames.

"We decided to moor up and visit Windsor Castle. It was here that I saw Queen Mary's Dolls House, all in 1/12th scale, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1924. I was absolutely blown away by the detail and craftsmanship and in particular the paintings.

"I immediately wanted to try my hand at painting in miniature and couldn't wait to get home and start painting and investigate more about miniature craftsmen. To my delight I discovered the miniature industry was thriving with many talented people engaged in this fascinating art form."

Creating fine art reproductions of some the great masters and offering her own compositions are just one aspect of her craft.

"I also make miniature picture frames. I supply high quality framed and unframed prints of some of my paintings. The unframed prints are available as individual poster prints in 3 scales and as print collections. All these come alongside some Edwardian and Victorian framed miniature photographs," Kay explained.
