CDHM artisan and IGMA fellow Kiva Atkinson makes 1:12 scale pottery including halloween jack o lanterns and pumpkins for the dollhouse miniatures Kiva Atkinson's simply amazingly fertile imagination gave birth to a simply wonderful "Birthing Pumpkin". In this little work of Hallowe'en art the poor pumpkin is not a lantern but is, in fact, vomiting up baby pumpkins! A truly delightful twist on the more usual pumpkin carving scenes or jack o' lanterns!

CDHM artisan Karin Caspar of KC Design Miniatures makes 1:12 scale furniture and dollhouse miniature foods While we're on the subject of "jack o'lanterns", a delightful legend sprang up about them, too.

It was said that a very mean old man called Jack - surprisingly! - was too mean to be allowed into Heaven when he died. When he arrived at Hell, the Devil met him at the gates - he didn't want him there, either! - gave him a piece of burning coal and sent him on his way. Jack put this bit of burning coal into a turnip to use as a lantern to light his way in the netherworld and, viola, the jack o' lantern was born!

Watch out for him on Hallowe'en as he is apparently still walking around with his lantern looking for somewhere to stay!
