Artist Profile: Ann Vanture

CDHM Artisan Ann Vanture creating dollhouse miniatures from printed high quality paper Also utilitarian are her tools. No fancy gizmos and gadgets can be found on her worktable, which is an added advantage for her customers because it means that they won't have to run out and purchase specific tools to finish one of her kits. Most of her work is in the popular 1:12th scale, however a quick look at her website uncovers minis in scales ranging from one-third to 144th.

"My most outlandish "tool" is my back stretcher that I use 10 minutes every day to prevent me from becoming an old hunched miniaturist. Brass tacks tools are: a photo box, camera, X-acto© knife, metal ruler, good cutting mat, paint brush, detailing scissors, tensor lamp and several glues and tape. I manufacture the kits here in the studio and have 6 terrific printers and two workhorse computers. I have an assistant, Mary Jane, for 12 hours a week to help me bag the kits, pack orders and generally keep me glued together."
