TIPS

The simplest way to condition polymer clay is to work it with your hands for several minutes. Take a chunk of clay of a size you feel comfortable working with, half an ounce to an ounce and begin squashing it between your fingers. As the clay warms and softens, start rolling it between your palms into a snake shape. Then move your hands against each other in a circular motion to compress the snake back into a ball. Repeat this process several times.

Dollhouse miniatures commonly come in three scales: "one-inch scale", "half-inch scale" and "quarter-inch scale". These terms mean the measure of the miniature as it relates to the real object it depicts. 1-inch scale, one inch of the miniature represents one foot of the real object. It is sometimes written as 1:12, which is the ratio 1 inch to 12 inches. In 1/2 inch scale, a half inch represents one foot of the real object. It can be written as 1:24. In 1/4 inch scale, a quarter-inch represents one foot of the real object. It is also called 1:48 scale and is approximately the same size as the "O" (oh) railroad scale.

An old pair of thin ladies gloves make great material for leather coverings of furniture, books, or doll boots.
